Tracking team health
Make data-driven improvements
Regularly tracking team health with simple surveys is a great way to take your team's pulse and drive conversations about improvements to process and culture.
In this example I've used an adapted version of Spotify's Squad Health Check Model that makes it more suitable for use with teams from any industry.
- Mission - how aligned does the team feel with its purpose and remit?
- Autonomy - how far does the team feel it is responsible for its own destiny and actions?
- Delivering value - how satisfied is the team that it is actually delivering what its stakeholders want?
- Speed - how fast is value being delivered?
- Process - do team and wider processes support or hinder the team in achieving its goals?
- Teamwork - how collaborative is the work, is the team working as a cohesive unit?
- Feeling supported - how well do team members support each other?
- Learning - is the work producing opportunities for developing skills and knowledge? Is the team making time and space for development?
- Fun - are we having fun yet? How much?
Analyse the data in the visualisation and the table - what do you make of this team's current state?
What areas would you choose to focus on? Are then any links between weaker scores? How cohesive is the feeling in the team? Does anyone stand out?
